PRESENT PERFECT VS SIMPLE PAST

Hi there!

The Simple Past - We should remember the following points when we talk about the Simple Past Tense:

1. The action was completed in the past.

 2. The exact or specific time of the even or action such as yesterday, last year, 3 hours ago or last week etc. should be mentioned.

 3. The Simple Past refers to the past. The Simple past refers to completed action and the time of the action is usually certain or specific.

4. Simple past focuses on the action, not the result.

 5. The Simple Past uses a single verb.

 eg: 1. I passed 10th in 2010.

 2. She met me in Paris.

The Present Perfect: We should remember the following points when we talk about the Present Perfect Tense:

 1. The Present focuses on the result of the action instead of talking about the action.

 2. The Present Perfect refers to the present.

 3. The Present Perfect uses two verbs - have/has + past participle.

 4. We can not use an adverb of past time with the Present Perfect tense.

 5. The Present Perfect usually refers to an action which took place recently or the time isn't specified.

eg: 1. She has eaten the cake.

 2. I have done my homework.

I hope this helps.
